Professional Indemnity Call Yourself And Expert? Youd Better Be

In business, information can be the most valuable product of all. It can also be the most costly. In a society of enthusiastic litigants, anyone professing to be an expert had better be able to prove it if intending to peddle the fruit of that expertise.

Realistically, though, even experts can make mistakes, which is why Professional Indemnity insurance is so important. Professional Indemnity insurance covers the experts when they get it wrong. After all, inaccurate information about the stock market can cause a client to lose a lot of money.

Likewise, an insurance broker who neglects to inform a client about the correct level of insurance needed is placing that client in potential financial peril. And, if a Business Consultant consults a business all the way to virtual bankruptcywell, you can see the red lights flashing

So what types of experts should take out Professional Indemnity insurance? The scope is limited these days only by the imagination of new expertise titles, most of which end with the word Consultant. Some of the more recognisable professions, however, are: solicitors, architects, insurance brokers, financial advisors, tax agents and health professionals.

Basically, anyone who is paid to provide advice, based on the level of expertise conveyed to the public, is vulnerable to claims being made against them if that advice, when taken, goes pear-shaped.

For example:

A firm of company registration agents was consulted by a business wishing to use a particular name. The company registration agents advised that the chosen name was available, however, a company with a similar name issued legal proceedings. The company registration agents firm was forced to pay the claim.

Structural drawings were prepared for the construction of steelwork. The drawings allegedly contained errors causing delays in construction due to the alterations required. Consequently, a claim was submitted for the cost of those delays.

A patient undergoing plastic surgery is rendered partially blind in one eye. Claiming improper treatment, the patient is awarded a settlement.

Professional Indemnity premiums can be quite expensive, however, they are usually also retrospective. Professional Indemnity insurance is written on a Claims Made and Notified basis. This means that a circumstance or event, giving rise to a claim, may still be covered even if it occurred prior to the policy being effected.

Because of the nature of liability claims, it may be years after the event occurred before a claim is actually made. As long as the insured has no prior knowledge of a potential claim and the actual claim is made during the Period of Insurance, the date of occurrence doesnt really matter.

This differs from other types of liability insurance policies, which, for the most part, are written on an Occurrence basis i.e. the incident must have occurred during the Period of Insurance, and a claim may be made at any time afterwards.

Retrospective cover on Professional Liability insurance can be limited, however. If the insurer chooses not to cover incidents that might have occurred in the past, it may invoke a retroactive date limitation. This will limit cover to incidents occurring only from the date specified in most cases the date of policy inception.

For example:

Archies Architectural Services held a Professional Indemnity policy with Professional Indemnity & General (P.I.G.) from 1st July, 2000 until 30th June, 2005. Becoming frustrated with the somewhat pig-headed attitude to service at P.I.G., they decided to go elsewhere. They switched to W.R.G (Were Really Good) Insurance and effected a Professional Indemnity policy with them.

W.R.G. decided to write the policy using retroactive date limitation from the date of inception (i.e. 1st July, 2005). If the retroactive date limitation had not been applied, W.R.G. would have been open to claims for incidents dating back to when Archies Architects began operating. With P.I.G. also in the mix there was the potential for some big courtroom bunfights!

Instead, W.R.G. will only consider claims made for incidents occurring from the date of inception of the policy.

Obviously, a policy without a retroactive date limitation is more advantageous to the insured, however, the policy will be more expensive and the insurer is not obligated to offer it.

Professional Indemnity insurance, then, is a vital part of any business that provides services and advice based on its proclaimed expertise. It not only provides peace of mind for the business operator, but also for the clients who faithfully rely on that expertise at some risk, either financially or physically.

So, are you an expert yet?

Using DVD and Video in Your ESL Class – Part Two

Have you ever wondered how to use video in your ESL classes, without just sitting your students down in front of the screen and hitting ‘Play’? Here are five more activities for you to try.

1 Vocabulary in context

Choose a scene (no longer than two or three minutes) with some dialogue rich in vocabulary. Make a worksheet with ten to twenty words that are used in the scene, or that describe the scene in some way. Give the worksheet to each pair of students and have them discuss some possible contexts in which the vocabulary might appear in a movie. (Giving students the context of the movie as a whole can make this task easier). Play your chosen scene once, asking students to listen for the contexts in which the vocabulary is used. Pairs can then compare their information and report back to you.

2 Subtitles

A big advantage of DVD over video is the subtitles feature. Playing a scene with subtitles in the students’ own language or in English is good for building confidence. Try playing it with the sound down first, letting them read the subtitles, then with the sound up, again reading the subtitles, and finally with the sound up and the subtitles turned off. Keep the extract you use to about two or three minutes.

3 News

If you have access to TV news in English, record a news story with plenty of visual footage. Play it with the volume off and have your students discuss in groups what they think the item was about. Then give them a pre-prepared list of vocabulary, containing words essential for understanding the story. Using this list and what they have seen, students reconstruct the story in pairs and report back to the group. Don’t forget to play it with the volume up at the end, so that students can compare their version with the original.

4 Cultures

This activity could be used in a conversation class about cultural differences. Find a short extract which shows a typical aspect of British culture, or American culture, or any culture you want to focus on! Have students discuss the differences between what they see and their own culture. Students do not necessarily need to understand the dialogue for this — the visual aspect of the cultural scene is usually enough.

5 Voices in my head

Choose a short scene with some interesting and expressive dialogue between two or more characters. Show the scene normally and check students’ comprehension. Put your students into groups, so that you have one group for each character in the scene. Their task is to imagine what is going on inside the head of their assigned character. Play the scene again, several times if necessary, for students to “get to know” their character, and have them work together to imagine his/her thoughts. Finally, play the scene once more, hitting “Pause” after each character has spoken, at which point the groups say what their character is thinking.

A short video sequence with a clearly focused activity is an effective and motivating way to bring variety to your ESL classes. Your students will go away with more than if you sit them down in front of the screen and hit ‘play’.

You Haven’t Earned the Right to Sell to Me!

How often do people try to sell us something before we have expressed an interest, have a desire, or are in the market for what they have? It seems the standard for many salespeople is to try to sell to anyone and everyone regardless of the interest level.

When someone attempts to sell us something before we have expressed an interest, the initial thought may be, Why would I buy from you? You havent earned the right to sell to me!

The fact of the matter is that selling, both online and off, is about determining if there is a need before ever attempting to match a buyer with a product or service. It is about providing enough information for the buyer to make the best decision based on their needs. And it is about gaining trust. The most successful sales professionals are those who are a resource before they are a vendor.

Having been in both brick-and-mortar and online sales and marketing for many years, it never ceases to amaze me how many people try to sell without determining the customers needs. They dont seem to realize that the better the match, the more likelihood for return business. The better the match, the more trust gained. If you depend on repeat business or referrals, trust is absolutely a factor in your customers decision to come back to you when they need your product or service.

Anyone who has been in business for an extended period of time (or plans to be) would be hard pressed to believe otherwise. Whatever you are selling, the buyers experience from the initial visit and/or purchase will likely determine whether or not they will ever purchase from you again.

When a customer has a great experience from the beginning the chances of them turning into a repeat buyer is more likely. It is a proven fact: it is more cost effective to have repeat buyers than it is to constantly seek out new customers. That is not to say you shouldn’t be adding new clients as part of your business model. Building trust with existing clients will add to your conversion rate more consistently.

What is often missed in the equation of sales and marketing is the lifetime value of a customer. Once the initial sale is made they are forgotten. With proper care, a one-time or occasional buyer can turn into a loyal buyer. And loyalty is more often than not based on trust.

We live in a try before you buy society. Because of this many buyers use what is referred to as the buying ladder. The buying ladder is very applicable to brick-and-mortar sales as well as Internet sales.

Before buying a high ticket item, buyers will “test the waters. This can be done in a number of ways: by test driving a car, taking a tour of a home, asking friends and associates for a recommendation. When purchasing on the Internet it can be downloading a free information item or buying an inexpensive product from a website to test out the level of service, quality of product, delivery time, quality of information (in the case of an information product), and response time. It may even depend on the buyers gut feeling. What are your own buying habits? What process do you go through before making the decision to buy?

When you gain trust people want to do business with you. And they want to tell others about the experience. Have you heard the expression that if someone has a bad experience they will tell more people about that experience than they do a good one? I cant say that I necessarily agree with this statement. There are occasions when I have heard people rave about a great experience over and over again.

Buying decisions are made for a number of reasons, but they ultimately depend upon whether or not the buyer trusts the process. And if they trust you. It is through the process of building trust that we have earned the right to sell.

The Value of Virtual

While secretaries and administrative assistant?s have been around for years, the term virtual assistant is a relatively new term that has become popular along side the Internet. What is a virtual assistant? Also called a VA, a virtual assistant is the online equivalent of an office administrative assistant.

As independent contractors, virtual assistants work for their clients off-site, performing a variety of administrative tasks. Common duties include data entry, web design and maintenance, bookkeeping, word processing and transcription. While many virtual assistants offer basic office skills like these, others specialize in areas like accounting, research, mailings, marketing and public relations.

Because virtual assistants work off-site, often from their own home offices, businesses that hire them do not incur additional overhead expenses, payroll taxes or benefit payments. Instead, the business gains the experience and expertise of the virtual assistant while only paying for the services performed. This set-up can be particularly valuable to the small business owner or nonprofit that cant afford to hire additional staff. It can also be ideal for firms that need to fill employment gaps during peak times, maternity leaves and vacations.

How does it work? Once a virtual assistant has been selected, the hiring firm and the VA outline their terms. This is typically done via e-mail or telephone (e.g., virtually). The hiring firm spells out the work to be performed, standards of performance and the needed deadline. The virtual assistant quotes a price, or an hourly rate, for the work and her payment terms. Prices and rates vary based on the type of work, level of expertise required and the deadline. More complex projects or those that are needed right away will likely be more costly than simple tasks. Once an agreement has been made, the VA gets to work, contacting the hiring firm as needed with questions. Once the project has been submitted and approved by the hiring firm, the virtual assistant paid. This can also be done virtually through online payment systems like PayPal.

How can you find a virtual assistant? There are a number of professional virtual assistant associations accessible online including the International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA), the International Association of Virtual Office Assistants (IAVOA) and the International Association of Virtual Assistants (IAVA). In addition to offering certification programs for virtual assistants, these associations often include online directories where you can search for virtual assistants. A simple Google search of the term virtual assistant will also yield millions of results.

The key is finding someone:
(1) who can perform the needed tasks on time;
(2) who will communicate clearly and on a timely basis;
(3) that will maintain your privacy and confidentiality; and
(4) with whom you will enjoy working.

If you can accomplish these four goals with a virtual assistant, she can become a valuable part of your virtual team.

Psoriasis Medications

he types of psoriasis medications used for treatment depends on how severe the case of psoriasis is, and how the person has responded to previous medications and treatment. Most of the time, psoriasis medication starts with topical creams, ointments and salves, then moves on to Ultraviolet (UV) light treatment. Sometimes the UV light treatment is combined with topical creams and ointments to enhance their effects too. With severe cases of psoriasis however, and those cases which haven’t responded to other treatments, injection drug medications are used.

How To Block Direct Image Linking Using .htaccess

Most of us have a specified limit to the amount of traffic our web servers will handle for us. That limit seems very generous until you start looking at image downloads and the bandwidth required. A few dozen users downloading an image that’s one thing. But what if you have an image that dozens of other websites like?

Worst-case scenario: suppose you run a site that gets hold of a picture taken by an Iraqi soldier of an incident that gains a lot of media attention. And suppose you have the exclusive rights to that image. You want to sell it, of course, not give it away, so you don’t post it as a freebie. You may have a downloadable version that others can take away to post on their own website, generally with a link to your site. But your original image is reserved for your use only.

Here’s the problem. Webmasters, often amateurs not really understanding why what they are doing is harmful, want to deliver the best possible image to their own readers. So instead of downloading your free file or linking to your site, they embed a link in their own page that downloads your picture, and only your picture, as part of their own website. This is easy to do; all you have to do is use the image link straight out to the other website.

With that excellent and lucrative image referenced above, you may have blogs on both sides indexing you; you may even have news sites or image sites indexing you. How much bandwidth can your site take before it exceeds your monthly limit? Chances are, even a medium-case scenario is going to turn your site into a DNS instead, and you will lose viewers and site ranking while you are unavailable. Not worth posting that great picture anymore, is it?

But you do have another option: the .htaccess file. This works primarily in Apache servers; if you’re not certain what you’ve got, call and ask. Because not all systems will allow them, and some can even be damaged by improper .htaccessing, you should contact your server administrator before you upload one, anyway.

What Is .htaccess?

.htaccess is a type of file that has, for years, been used to restrict access to protected web pages or areas, such as error pages and password-protected directories. You create it using a text editor such as NotePad or SimpleText, and then save as plain (ASCII) text. Upon saving it, the file extension needs to be changed from .txt to .htaccess and the rest of the name needs to be left off. Your file should be named nothing except for .htaccess. Not file.htaccess. Just .htaccess.

If your text program insists on appending the .txt, you can right-click the file anywhere you normally open it and select Rename to remove the .txt. If your computer system does not show file extensions, look up how to make it show them! Alternately, telnet and ftp programs will also allow you to rename files and remove extensions.

Creating .htaccess Files

Your first step in creating this file should be to open your text editor and save an empty page as .htaccess. Turn off your word wrap function. .htaccess files are intended to be single-line commands, and a word wrap can throw this completely off and make your file unusable, either by breaking lines in the wrong place or by putting in unwanted characters when it’s uploaded.

When you upload an .htaccess file, it should be encoded as ASCII, not binary. CHMOD the file to either 644 or (RW-RR–) so that the server can use it but a browser cannot; readable .htaccess files can compromise your security by allowing hackers to figure out what you have protected and where the authentication files are. (You can also prevent this problem by putting your authentication files above the root directory so that they cannot be accessed via www.)

An .htaccess file affects the directory it’s placed in as well as any subsequent subdirectories; if you have files everywhere you want protected, you can put the .htaccess file in your root directory. If you only want to protect your images, you can put it in your images directory alone. The closest .htaccess file to any given directory, reading up the directory tree, is the one that is applied to that specific directory. Try to use the fewest number of .htaccess files possible; redundancies can cause an infinite loop, which is bad for your site.

Preventing Hot Linking

The most important thing you want to do with an .htaccess file is prevent hot linking of non-HTML objects like images and movies. Hot linking is often referred to as “bandwidth stealing.”

Your .htaccess file will disallow hotlinking; instead of the image your thief is trying to use, they’ll get something else, like a broken image symbol or content you specify (angry men are popular).

Your .htaccess file content should read as follows:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?mydomain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg)$ – [F]

The first two lines you don’t have to modify in any way. However, the third line’s http://mydomain.com needs to be modified to reflect your URL. The fourth line in the example is set up to deny use of GIFs and JPEGs; you can add, using a pipe (|) separator, any other file type you wish.

If your server is set up to deliver alternate content (call your server administrator and ask), you can add another piece to the fourth line of code in the .htaccess file to do this:

RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg)$ http://www.mydomain.com/angryman.gif [R,L]

This delivers an angry-man image you have in your directory; just as above, make certain you change that domain name to the proper one.

Fighting Allergens On The Home Front

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 8:16 pm

While asthma and allergies are nothing to sneeze at, there could be good news for the families of the 8.9 million American children currently diagnosed with asthma and the millions more who suffer from allergies. They may all be able to breathe easier by fighting dirt and dander at home. Here are hints on how:

• Wash bedding regularly in hot water.

• Avoid feather pillows.

• Put a dust mite cover on your child’s mattress and pillows.

• Keep pets out of the bedroom and wash furry pets often.

• Replace heat and air-conditioning filters monthly.

• Use an exhaust fan when cooking.

• Keep curtains and blinds dust free.

• Defeat dust and dangerous allergens with a total filtration system vacuum cleaner.

Particularly helpful is one vacuum manufacturer that features a certified HEPA filter placed after the motor to capture motor exhaust along with the house dirt. The HEPA-certification means the filter will trap all particles, including pollen and other allergens, even those as tiny as 0.3 microns (the period at the end of this sentence is about 397 microns). The filter also has a charcoal layer to neutralize odors.

What’s more, the machines made by Miele have a special Sealed System, so even minute motes can’t escape back into the room. Even the vacuum cleaner bag is specifically designed and made from microfibers that attract particles much like the filter does, so it captures up to 50 percent more dirt and allergens than conventional paper vacuum cleaner bags. The bag is sealed shut when you remove it, so the dirt can’t get out again. You simply toss the full dustbag in the trash; there are no dust clouds and no dirty containers to wash out.

Company representative Paul McCormack explains: “Many doctors identify vacuuming as an activity that can pollute home indoor air quality. This is why Miele engineered a completely Sealed System-not only the dustbag chamber but the motor compartment as well-to ensure that the dirty air stays within the vacuum cleaner.”

Forklift how does it work?

Forklift or a lift truck as it is sometimes called is a machine that is capable of lifting heavy objects and transporting them to different locations. There are several important characteristics that each forklift possesses. First of all, most of the forklift trucks (if not all) will use the rear wheel steering. That means the forklift uses rear wheels to make a turn. This gives the forklift operator more vehicle control (especially important when lifting something with the forks). You should be able to become comfortable with rear wheel steering during your forklift training. The operator of the forklift will be able to make turns in a very tight circle.

Another important characteristic is the fact that a forklift will usually weigh more than a regular car. Depending on a type of forklift it can even be heavier that a truck. This heavy weight is necessary to allow the forklift to lift heavy objects while providing the necessary stability and control. Also the weight is necessary to provide stability when the lifted objects are moved from one place to another. Another reason for the extra weight is the fact that forklift trucks often have a short width, many times fewer than 4 5 feet. The weight of the forklift will determine the maximum weight of the load it can lift.

Another thing to mention about forklift trucks is that they are very powerful? You should be very careful when you are driving the forklift or lifting some object. There are many different forklift types produced by many manufacturers like Toyota, Mitsubishi and Clark. Each of these forklift trucks will have its own specific benefits. For example, many Toyota forklift trucks offer the Active Control Rear Stabilizer for extra side stability and System of Active Stability for electronically monitoring of forklift functioning and operations. Other electronic equipment is usually installed on different forklift models.

Oakland As vs. Texas Rangers

Barry Zito from the As is looking now like in his best days back in 2002 when he won the Cy Young award. Zito allowed eight hits over seven scoreless innings and the A’s patiently battered Jamie Moyer in their third straight victory 7-2 over the Seattle Mariners last week.

“I just have a mentality where I’m going out there and not trying to be too fine, not thinking too much,” Zito said. “I’m just letting my stuff work for me. Just trust my stuff, trust myself.”

With five key players on the disabled list after a rash of injuries, the A’s are back above .500 at 20-19 and in a first-place tie with Texas in the AL West. Despite those injuries, theyre a team that has plenty of talent and will to get back to the winning side of the record. If they play good with all there key players injured imagine what they will play like once everybody is back and healthy.

Lineup

1. Mark Kotsay, CF. 2.Jason Kendall, C. 3.Eric Chavez, 3rd B. 4.Frank Thomas, DH. 5. Bobby Crosby, SS. 6.Nick Swisher, 1stB. 7. Jay Payton, LF. 8. Bobby Kielty, RF. 9.Marco Scutaro, 2nd B.

After an impressive game held on Tuesday against the Yankees in which the score was 14-13 in favor of the Yankees, the Rangers fell again on Tuesday 4-3. It wasnt such an exciting game like the one on Tuesday but it still was good. It seems that the games between this two are becoming more and more interesting because both teams play really good against each other.

The Yankees were winning 4-1 in the in the seventh, but Gary Matthews Jr. hit a two-run homer in the eighth for Texas, cutting it to 4-3. Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his eighth save in nine chances.

“It’s tough to lose like that. I didn’t think they hit me very hard. They just found holes at opportune times,” Loe said. “I felt like I was making my pitches. I felt like I was in control. Maybe my pitch selection could have been better.”

In both games the Rangers were very close to get the victory but the powerful offense of the Yankees was better than theirs. Maybe they can change the story this week as they face the Oakland As, a team with a lot of injuries right now. That can give some advantage to the Rangers, so if you like sports betting this is a perfect opportunity to bet on a great game as Im sure it will be between these two teams.

Lineup

1. Gary Matthews Jr., CF. 2.Michael Young, SS. 3.Mark Teixeira, 1st B. 4. Phil Nevin, DH. 5. Hank Blalock, 3rdB. 6. Kevin Mench, RF. 7.Brad Wilkerson, LF. 8. Mark DeRosa, 2nd B. 9. Gerald Laird, C.

These Thugs Are Attacking You!

A free-radical is a molecule or atom that is missing an electron. Free-radicals attack healthy cells within your body trying to steal an electron from them. Free-radicals are nothing more than thugs. All cancer is caused by free-radicals and the damage they do to your DNA. Your DNA holds the blue print for every cell that is created. All cancer is caused by mutated DNA. This is how DNA mutation happens; free-radicals attack your DNA trying to steal an electron, this attack continues and changes the blue print within your DNA, now the cells that are being created by your DNA are mutated with this changed blue print. The cells that are produced are cancer cells and the body no longer recognizes them as you; but they are not cancer yet, one more condition is needed to begin the growth of true cancer and that is inflammation. Inflammation appears when there is an injury to our body; even cell injury. Inflammation is there to help heal but it can not heal a mutation so it feeds the cell and within a few years you have some form of cancer.

We can not avoid free-radicals, they are a part of life; they are found in air and water pollution, the processed foods we eat and are caused by trauma and exercise as well as any medication you may take. Medications have a free-radical nature due to laboratory production and doctors call theses free-radicals and the damage they do; side effects.

The only thing that stops free-radicals is antioxidants; they are molecules that have a spare electron. The only place to find antioxidants is in natural sources. Dietary supplements are needed for optimum health and contain some antioxidants, eating natural foods that are un-processed is very important. Processing foods kills the antioxidants and they will not help you. Most plants have around 1,000 to 1,500 antioxidants each, which does not seem like a lot compared to the amount of free-radicals you are taking into your body every single day; about a billion.

With the discovery of a fruit from South East Asia called the Mangosteen, scientists have been in a buzz about the amount of antioxidants this fruit contains. The Mangosteen fruit has an amazing 25,000 antioxidants. This fruit has been studied in Universities and by scientists for the last 20 years; they have proved that this fruit has the most powerful and the largest number of antioxidants in nature to date. You can read all the studies by going to pubmed at dot gov and typing in Mangosteen. The Mangosteen fruit has also been providing thousands of people with pain relief as well as other medicinal benefits, due to super charged antioxidants called Xanthones. Two hundred Xanthones have been identified in nature, 41 are in the Mangosteen fruit alone and you can compare that to the Aloe Vera plant that contains only one Xanthone. One thing about Xanthones you need to know is that they must be consumed in their natural form.

Cancer and other serious illnesses are on the rise in this country. Cancer is a plague; but we have become so accustomed to the word and the disease that we don’t take it as seriously as we should. Cancer destroys not only the body and our cells; it can destroy our families and devastate our financial situation. pubmed at dot gov is a source that can be used as a guide to help in your recovery; there are links to several informational pages, done by doctors and scientists.

Alternative health care is also on the rise due to medications that cause so many side effects because of their free-radical nature that you can end up in worse health than when you first went into see the doctor. Medications on top of medications will break down your immune system and the free-radicals end up on a rampage through your body, causing mayhem and destruction, and then you need more medication. All medications carry a risk of side effects. Alternatives such as fruits and veggies do not carry these types of risks. You can call toll free 1-888-374-4148 and listen to a message about the amazing power of Xanthones.

What Is Hoodia Gordonii?

Many experts say that if you haven’t heard about the new supplement known as Hoodia Gordonii, there’s no doubt you will know about it very soon. Hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant, earning popular attention as a potentially powerful weapon in the war against obesity.

This appetite suppressant from the continent of Africa is a fast rising entity in the world of dietary supplements. While many have tried and tested its effects, there are still those who are in the dark about what Hoodia Gordonii is.

Here is some key information about Hoodia Gordonii that one has to know:

-Hoodia Gordonii is a succulent that is found in Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Bushmen and desert merchants from the area have been using Hoodia for centuries. It is used to ward off hunger during long trips in the desert.

-Hoodia gordonii is entirely natural. Pharmaceutical companies find it so promising that the appetite-suppressing molecule P57 is being tried to be synthesized to create a patented diet drug in the future.

-Only the variation of Gordonii Hoodia has appetite suppressant abilities.

-Hoodia sets the brain into thinking that you’ve eaten, and makes you feel full.

-Hoodia may effect right away, or may take several weeks to take effect.

-Key results of Hoodia reportedly include a reduced interest in food or a loss of appetite, a delay in the time after eating before hunger sets again in mind and in stomach, feeling full more quickly, and a beautiful feeling of confidence.

-Hoodia Gordonii is not to be considered as a stimulant, and has no medically reported side effects.

-Hoodia is discovered to be safe for most people.

There are many dieters that are in search of accurate information and comparisons on Hoodia products that have no doubt come across many contradictories and misinformation on the internet about Hoodia Gordonii. While there are those that do paint the true picture about this wonder plant, there are those that tend to exaggerate thus distorting the facts.

Hoodia Gordonii has made waves across the country so much that CBS and 60 minutes aired segments on their program on using Hoodia as an appetite suppressant. Soon after that, word about Hoodia Gordonii has spread like wildfire across the country about this supposedly miracle plant.

Because of this vast popularity, diet pill manufacturers have produced many different brands of Hoodia in different forms, popping up everywhere, everyday. Many companies have relied on this popularity claiming they know definitely everything about Hoodia. The truth is they dont know everything about Hoodia, in fact no one does, its too soon to make claim.

Dietitians and scientists have barely scratched the surface about Hoodia Gordonii. Many studies have been done and Hoodia Gordonii does show promises in the issue of appetite suppression. With the ongoing tests are being done, there are no side effects yet to be found. The best thing to do for those who want to try Hoodia Gordonii at this point is to compare different Hoodia products to one another and do lots of research and studies. Make sure that you consult first with a licensed physician to check out whether it will be good for you.

How To Develop Creative Thinking

In my opinion, creativity is the real genius. Intelligent children learn fast, and apply their knowledge in everyday life situations. But – inventing something new, creating something original, that is real genius. I always admire originality, whether it is original artwork, an original story, or an invention that can make life easier for many people.

How can we teach our children creative thinking? How can we teach them the habit of thinking “outside the box”?

Here are a few easy and fun suggestions for activities that will go a long way toward developing this very valuable skill of creative thinking in your child. Slight adjustments may be needed for your child’s age and skill.

1. Play the following game: one person starts telling a story. He stops after a few sentences, and the next player continues his story. There is no limit to the number of players. It is a great idea to record the story, so that it can be distributed to the participants later, for the enjoyment of everyone. This is a very fun activity that trains your child (and you too, if you are participating) to think creatively.

2. Prepare a series of pictures. The pictures can be taken from a book, from several books, from newspapers – or even downloaded from the Internet and printed on a home printer. Put the pictures next to each other, and let your child tell a story, using those pictures. You can take turns, your child and you, developing the story based on the pictures. This game can have several variations: put the pictures face down on the table, then turn them over one by one, to continue the story. Gradually increase the speed of turning the pictures over, so that the story teller has to come up with the story continuation faster and faster. When you are done with a set of pictures, just change the order, and see if your child can come up with a different story, based on the new order.

3. Prepare a series of words written on cards. Play the same game – tell a story using these words. You can use the same variations as above.

4. Play a piece of classical music, and let your child tell you what kind of mood does this music create, what kind of story does this music tell?

5. Play a piece of music, and have your child paint a picture that shows the mood this music creates, or tells the story this music is telling.

6. When your child comes up with a story in one of the previous activities, ask your child to change the story in order to change the mood. For example, if the story is sad – can he change the story to be happy? Can he change it to be a mystery? Can he change it to be a comedy, or a funny story?

7. When reading a book with your child, always ask open ended and thought provoking questions like: How would you handle this situation? What could the character do differently? How do you think did the character feel??

8. Print several pictures on paper. (You can use cardboard if you’d like to make the pieces more durable). Cut each picture into 9 parts (or more, if you want to make this game more complex). Now let your child put the pictures back together. After putting all pieces back together into the original pictures, you can mix the pieces, so that your child can create new pictures, combining pieces from different pictures. Start with two pictures mixed together, and advance to more and more pictures. Start with bigger pieces, cutting the picture into 4 parts only, and advance to smaller and smaller pieces, cutting the picture into more and more pieces. Also, use more and more complicated pictures, that include more details.

9. Play “pretend” games with your child often, or use “role playing” with your child. When you read a story, ask your child to play the role of his favorite character.

10. When your child has friends visiting, have them come up with a short play and perform it for the parents. This is always a fun activity for the children, and it also keeps them very busy.

11. Encourage your child to paint a picture of an object. Then have him paint it in different colors. For example, ask your child to paint or draw a bunch of fruit. Then have him change the colors of all the fruit. Have a red banana, yellow apple and so forth.

12. Choose a day a week, and have all family members do their routine activities in a different way. For example, brush their teeth in a different way than usual. Take a different way to school. Sing instead of talking. Get up earlier, and and play a new game. Walk backwards… Be creative, and encourage your child to be creative too.

13. Don’t ever discourage your child from using his imagination. If your child tells an imaginary story, always praise him and acknowledge the creativity. If your child comes up with an original answer to a question, even if the answer is incorrect, acknowledge creative thinking.

14. Keep your eyes open for any signs of creativity and originality. Always praise and encourage these traits.

Have fun, and enjoy! To your child’s creativity!

Saving for your children

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:20 pm

Most of us will face expenses in later life such as university, new car, wedding and first home. If you can afford to start saving for your children, a nest egg in later life can be a huge benefit. Saving just 30 a month for 18 years at an interest rate of 4.5% will amount to almost 10,000.

Bank and Building Society Accounts

Most banks and building societies offer savings accounts specifically designed for children. These savings accounts are open to children of a certain age ranging from birth to 24 years. The interest paid on these savings accounts is often higher than that paid on standard accounts.

Some childrens savings accounts have restrictions as to how many withdrawals can be made without losing interest. How you can access your savings depends on which account you choose. Some may not require notice to be given to withdraw cash; they may be branch-based savings accounts or come with a passbook or cash card.

Some providers also offer regular savings accounts for children that come with restrictions on the maximum and minimum amounts that can be invested each month. They usually have a restriction on the number of withdrawals, which if exceeded can mean a dramatic drop in the rate of interest paid or even that the savings account has to be closed. A certain number of monthly payments also have to be made into these savings accounts each year to prevent loss of interest or closure.

Tax on childrens accounts

Interest on savings is usually taxed at 20% before it is paid. However, children also have a personal tax allowance which stands at 5,035 for the 2006-07-tax year. When opening an account for your children, you can complete a Form R85 for each account to receive interest without tax deducted. Young people aged 16 or over complete this form themselves.

Obviously there is no limit to the amount that you can invest for your children, but be aware that the interest may be taxed if they are under 18 and are unmarried. Parents and step-parents each have a 100 limit on interest earned. This means that if money given produces interest of more than 100 a year, that interest is treated as the income of the parent who gave the money. However, each parent has a 100 limit, so you can receive interest of 200 a year without having to pay tax.

Grandparents or friends and other relatives can give as much money as they like without interest being taxed as their income. Inheritance tax exemptions may mean that tax will not have to be paid on cash gifts given to children but if the provider dies within seven years this may change.

Child Trust Funds

The Child Trust Fund (CTF) is a Government savings scheme that came into effect on 6 April 2005, for children receiving Child Benefit who were born on or after 1 September 2002. Under the initiative the Government provides a minimum of 250 in the form of a voucher, to be presented to one of the Child Trust Fund providers to open a tax-free account on behalf of the child.

Parents, grandparents and friends can make additional deposits, up to a maximum of 1,200 each year.
When the child reaches the age of seven, the Government will donate a further sum, currently proposed at a minimum of 250.
At age 16 the child can begin to make decisions about how the money is managed.
No withdrawals are permitted until the child is 18.
Once the child is 18, the CTF will close and the resulting funds will be made available to him/her.
If an account is not opened before the voucher expires (12 months from issue) HM Revenue & Customs will open a stakeholder CTF account.

National Savings
Childrens Bonus Bonds

With these savings bonds you can invest in your childs name and all returns are tax-free for children and parent. They can be opened for children under the age of 16 and you can invest 25 to 3000 for a five-year period. The interest paid on these savings bonds is fixed.

Index-linked savings certificates

These are tax-free investments where the rate of interest is guaranteed to increase in line with inflation. 100 to 15,000 can be invested in each issue and terms can be either for three or five years.

Reproductive Justice: Informed Life-choice

Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA) is one of the most widely researched and documented safe and reliable means of contraception. DMPA is 99.7% effective and lasts up to three months, making it a viable alternative to oral contraception and http://www.fhi.org/en/RH/Pubs/booksReports/methodaction.htm IUDs . Long-acting injectable contraceptives such as DMPA remove the daily tensions surrounding reproductive and sexual health, especially for those who find other methods impractical. Although proven safe and effective, the oral contraceptive pill is impractical for many and does not address the myriad of circumstances and concerns of many couples. Due to a variety of health concerns and individual needs, IUDs are clinically unsafe for many women. Expanding the basket of choices of contraceptives promotes the praxis of reproductive rights.

There are a plentitude of circumstances in which couples in the prime of their fertility may wish to delay pregnancy. For example, young, urban career-oriented couples may choose DMPA as a highly effective means of long-term fertility control. Young couples struggling to meet the needs of existing children may find DMPA a convenient and easy-to-use contraceptive method of choice. Other young couples may be eager to have their first child, yet wish to postpone further offspring. In these cases contraceptives serve as a ‘spacing’ method, permitting women and their spouses to concentrate on pursuing studies/training or rigorous career paths. ‘Spacing’ also represents a responsible and mature attitude towards fertility, cultivating better and more informed parenting.

Clinical, demographic and social science professionals alike conclude that an unmet need for contraceptives monopolizes a great deal of women’s time. Time spent dealing with fertility reduces precious time for responsible and effective parenting, care-taking of elders, income generation and self-development. DMPA specifically addresses a constraint of parenthood- namely time and stress management. Poverty exacerbates these constraints where reduced access to health care services as well as education and training all work to limit life-choices.

Risky choices

A recent study in the Indian Journal of Pediatrics of pregnant women from six urban slums revealed an 80.6% prevalence of anemia. The researchers concluded that in most instances, anemia resulted from inadequate dietary intake of iron, of which 90.9% of study participants fell far short of the daily recommended allowance. DMPA may reduce menstrual bleeding and promote a slight weight gain, making it a wholly beneficial and life-enhancing alternative. Other non-contraceptive benefits of DMPA include a reduction of pain associated with endometriosis as well as the palliative treatment of certain http://www.who.int/reproductive-health/hrp/progress/33/news33_2.en.htm cancer.

Lactating mothers too often struggle with post-partum health, while at the same time seeking a reliable means of contraception that does not place her child at risk. The combined oral contraceptive pill is not a viable alternative for lactating mothers who harbor concerns over the effects of the quantity or quality of their breast milk. Lactating mothers may shoulder responsibilities towards her newborn child, existing children, spouse and other kin, rendering the daily attention and inflexibility of oral contraceptives an unnecessary hassle. DMPA has no adverse effects on breast milk while providing security and reassurance unparalleled.

Rights to Resources

Reproductive rights theorizes access to treatment and care, while reproductive justice works towards ensuring quality, safety, and practical access for women in a myriad of socio-economic circumstances. Purporting contraceptive choices as a reproductive right overlooks the varying circumstances which mediate a woman’s personal agency and ability to decide. To transition from reproductive rights to reproductive justice it is necessary to expand the basket of choices to address the unmet needs for contraception and birth spacing as well as their practicality.

The utility of DMPA gives credence not only to reproductive health as a right, but also to reproductive justice by broadening the element of choice to a wider array of women, particularly those living in poverty or otherwise disenfranchised. Far too little research interrogates the intersection of poverty and unmet needs for pragmatic, safe and effective contraceptives. In real terms, poverty reduces access to education/training as well as quality health care. The unmet needs for contraception across all social-economic strata indicates an urgent necessity to re-examine these linkages in the form of expanding knowledge resources and availability of choices. Enhancing the basket of contraceptive choices can drastically enhance the lives of women in particular, and families in general, especially those traditionally disenfranchised.

A Quick Look at Depression and Teen Suicide

An alarming truth: teen girls and boys are both at risk for suicide. Though many do not recognize suicide as a serious threat to a teenager’s well being, teen suicide is a major cause of death among American teenagers. According to the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), about eight out of every 100,000 teenagers committed suicide in 2000. Experts estimate that for every teen suicide death, there are 10 other teen suicide attempts. They also found out that almost one in five teens had thought about suicide. About one in six teens made plans on committing suicide and that one in twelve teens had attempted suicide in the last year. As many as eight out of ten teenagers who commit suicide try to ask for help in some way before committing suicide, usually by seeing a doctor or psychiatrist shortly before the suicide attempt.
